“Storytime” was originally conceived as a pilot for Nick Jr. and was pitched to the network when I was working at Nickelodeon in NYC. It was intended as a vehicle for children to develop memory retention, an updated version of a game I enjoyed playing as a kid, which used drawings filled chock-a-block with things, some of which were eliminated in a subsequent drawing, which required the viewer to identify what was missing. This idea has since been updated and is being developed as a children’s app, based on the same core learning skills.
In “Storytime,” the teacher, Aunt Mae, reads a story to the children of her classroom. The viewer at home is then provided with recreations of the story as drawn by the classroom children, and the interactive component allows the viewer to determine if the retelling of the story is true to the original.
